Bakers Donates £Half A Million To Local Charities

Since moving to Brentwood in 2011 Bakers has been making regular donations to local charities and good causes. With the launch of the Bakers Foundation in 2023 their commitment to support the local community has been elevated to the extent that they have now donated over £1/2 million to good causes,

Their summer donations distributed in August have totalled £62,000 and followed £44,000 in Easter Donations which, along with several other ad hoc donations through the year brings the 2024 total to £151,310.

Quote from Steve Baker, Managing Director - “I’m immensely proud that we are in a position to be able to continually support charities in our community. It’s really important to me that the legacy of the Bakers Foundation will continue to do good for as long as the company maintains success.”

"It’s always such an amazing feeling to be able to provide donations to charities we have supported for many years, and to continue to build our relationships with their teams. It’s also a privilege to hear from new charities that can benefit from the Bakers Foundation." Kirsty Dailly, PR & Marketing Manager.

Details of who Bakers Foundation has supported this summer:

SNAP
Thank you once again for your generous support of SIBS4FUN, everyone at SNAP is hugely appreciative of your continuing support of our work. With your help, we were able provide another special week and the children absolutely loved the tattoos – as usual! Thank you also to Olivia and Liv for volunteering on the Thursday, supporting the children and giving on of them the confidence to sing Mamma Mia! Karen Boath, CEO of SNAP

Wipe Away Those Tears
Thank you to everyone at Bakers. It really means a lot to us and we are truly grateful for your on-going support and generosity.
“My little boy was born at 30+5 weeks via emergency C-section. He weighed 900grams at birth. He had all clear brain scans in NICU. We then started to notice that something wasn’t right and after being persistent, we got taken seriously after taking a trip to A&E and then a day after his 1st birthday we finally got a MRI scan which told us the dreaded news. Finley had a brain injury and he was starved of oxygen, which now leads to him having cerebral palsy. Finley is currently two years old and he doesn’t stand or walk. We are trying to build his strength and gain his confidence in doing so. We are keen that with some intensive blocks and different ranges of therapy, we will hopefully have him standing and walking. He lacks confidence and is ever so scared.”
Thanks to donations from the Bakers Foundation, Wipe Away Those Tears were able to fund a course of physiotherapy for Finley at a cost of £1,000. - Gail O’Shea, Trustee at Wipe Away Those Tears

Kids Inspire

Thank you so much for this fantastic news, it is much appreciated as this is quiet period for us. We are filling a much needed gap in Children's Mental Health provision. Kids Inspire is an Essex based children’s mental health charity supporting children, young people and their families who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, self harm, and other worries.Paula Ashfield, Head of Fundraising at Kids Inspire

Hopefield Animal Sanctuary
We are the largest sanctuary in Essex and have been rescuing animals since 1983. We offer a home to any breed, providing a lifetime of love, care and security for abused, abandoned and neglected animals. We are currently home to over 600 residents across 100 different species. We continue to actively promote animal welfare and humane behaviour but sadly we regularly see an increase year on year, asking for our support of many more animals. We receive no government funding and rely solely on the kindness and generosity of the public, businesses and grant funding organisations to keep doing what we do. This donation would go a long way towards our basic running costs such as animal feed, veterinary fees, maintaining animal enclosures etc. Carole Grovers, Fundraiser at Hopefield Animal Sanctuary

Challenging MND

Your donation is so much appreciated and absolutely put to the best use.
We have financed three pan Essex Nurses who will shadow families from diagnosis in hospital and at regular intervals at home to ensure that their needs as a family are met. This is a support which the MND community locally have been asking for as coordinating 6-8 specialities from the hospital/social care and in the third sector is pretty challenging for anyone living with MND. Once the individual can no longer independently address these needs it falls on their family carers, who are juggling work, family life and the care of their loved one which can lead to burnout. At this stage the family carer ends up needing intervention and often their loved one ends up in a nursing home before they are ready. This pre-emptive work should ensure that every family is very much on the Family Coordinators radar and help is at hand throughout the families journey... We have now supported over 200 this year, total over 28 months 332 and they are literally nationwide! Lianne Iles, CEO of Challenging MND

POD Children’s Charity

Thank you very much for so generously funding Pod’s visits to the children’s wards at Essex hospitals This new donation from Bakers Foundation will fund 60 Pod sessions. at Southend, Newham, Romford, Chelmsford, Whipp’s Cross and Harlow hospitals, similar to previous years. Lisa – Lead Health Play Specialist at Southend and Chelmsford:
"I had the pleasure of accompanying Skittleman around Broomfield hospital on his last visit. Skittleman provided the patients with fun, magic, and laughter. He always includes everyone in on the giggles, including staff. It's great for the patients to see the staff in a different light. Being in hospital can be a frightening and stressful time for both the patients and their families. Skittleman really does make a difference to everyone, he changes the vibe and energy of the ward environment. The Play Teams across the MSE would like to thank Baker Labels for funding our visits on behalf of our patients and their families. We see first hand the positive impact Pod visits have on children and young people in hospital."Margaret Munford, Administrator, POD Charity

Young Lives vs Cancer

Thank you all for your on-going support with a £2000 donation from the Baker Foundation. This will make an incredible impact! The donation will help to support the costs of families staying at Paul’s House, our dedicated “Home from Home” in London. £2000 could cover over one month’s stay for a family at Paul’s House to save them the time, money and energy expended to travel to London, whilst their child is facing treatment for cancer. Kim Mangelshot, Fundraising and Engagement Manager at Young Lives vs Cancer

Brentwood Foodbank
Thank you so much that is an incredibly generous donation.
Brentwood Foodbank, who are part of the Trussell Trust network of food banks, are struggling to keep up with demand and having to buy large quantities of food on a weekly basis. For the financial year ending 30 April 2024 we provided over 130,000 meals to Brentwood residents referred to us by frontline professionals. Just as importantly we provide people with sign posting to agencies to help them overcome their current difficulties. Sandra Sawle, Volunteer at Brentwood Foodbank

Marillac Neurological Care Centre
Baker Labels’ generous support will be instrumental in delivering projects which enhance resident comfort, wellbeing, and independence. The Marillac Neurological Care Centre provides specialist care and treatment for 52 residents with complex neurological conditions. Neurological injuries and conditions can have devastating, life long impacts on anyone – it only takes a few seconds for a life to be completely knocked off course. Our residents are adapting to an uncertain future, relearning what they can achieve and resetting their lifegoals. Liesbeth Newman, Fundraising and Partnership Manager at Marillac Neurological Care Centre

Billericay Foodbank

This is amazing and great news, thank you so much. We have had a significant drop off in donations in the last six months which means we are currently spending £500-£1,000 per week on food, so donations like this are both incredibly generous and encouraging for us. One family we have helped this week gave us this feedback “Dear all at Billericay Foodbank, I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Last night was the first night I have slept all the way through without my stomach growling, I can’t even express my gratitude, I really had given up hope. Once again, I am truly, truly grateful to the guy who dropped it off and for you doing this. God bless you” Stuart Gibbs, Trustee at Billericay Foodbank
